The Rhode Island Quality Institute (RIQI) and RIMS have established the Joint Clinical Advisory Committee to provide clinical guidance on improving the planning, implementation, and operation of health information technologies across the state. This committee aims to identify electronic health record (EHR) efficiencies, reduce administrative burdens, and establish statewide best practices for data sharing.
During the meeting on December 12, 2024, the committee reviewed survey results to identify priority areas for leveraging Rhode Island’s Health Information Exchange (HIE), CurrentCare. The following five priority areas were determined:
- Transition of Care: Enhancing HIE capabilities to deliver critical encounter summaries for better care coordination and decision-making.
- eConsult and eReferrals: Facilitating secure electronic consultations and referrals to improve access to specialists and community-based organizations.
- Flags and Alerts: Introducing patient-specific alerts to improve quality, safety, and coordination of care.
- Electronic Quality Reporting: Streamlining reporting processes to reduce administrative burdens and improve performance scores.
- Population Health Dashboard: Providing actionable insights to help organizations manage chronic and high-risk populations more effectively.
These priorities reflect the committee’s commitment to advancing healthcare quality and efficiency in Rhode Island. The Joint ClinicalAdvisory Committee will continue to collaborate with stakeholders to implement these initiatives and support the provider community.
