Established in 1812, the Rhode Island Medical Society is the leading voice of physicians, residents and medical students in Rhode Island. RIMS proactively and persistently advocates for effective healthcare policy outcomes, provides professional development opportunities for physicians, and promotes useful resources that advance patient care and the medical profession.
We are a Society that is run by and for doctors, and at over 200 years old we remain a ready vehicle for effective leadership in the practice of medicine.
We challenge you as a doctor, and therefore a community leader, to join us in our efforts to improve public health and the advancement of the profession of medicine.
RIMS supports physicians in their efforts to serve patients, succeed in their medical practices, realize their professional potential and achieve their personal goals. RIMS can provide answers, identify resources, facilitate contacts, serve as a liaison with local health insurers or otherwise help individual physicians get prompt attention to a variety of problems.
Since 1812, advocacy has been one of the primary roles of the Rhode Island Medical Society. As the leader of medicine in the Ocean State, we are committed to represent the physician voice with local, state, and federal legislators, with state and federal health agencies, and also with the private sector healthcare companies. We value your membership and encourage you to participate in advocacy efforts as we represent you and your patients with a wide array of stakeholders.
Through its own structures as well as through its appointive authority to numerous boards, commissions, advisory panels and other bodies, RIMS offers many opportunities to lead and to serve the profession and the community locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
Members receive dedicated email alerts and a bi-weekly newsletter curated with critical information. RIMS also provides virtual and in person events periodically that bring together stakeholders and various experts to provide you with timely information important to Rhode Island physicians.
A special fund within the RIMS Foundation is available for the assistance of members who find themselves in special need.
